Windsurfing: Felixstowe Dip Wind Direction: SW Wind Stength: 15-20kts Surf / Sea State: waves and chop Air Temperature: warm Sea Temperature: warm Weather: sunny Max Speed: 25.77 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 17.4 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Another 5 star session. Left it till 1pm as high tide turned. Conditions
were great and enough beach to launch, but the sea was rough and hard core.
Several out on 6.5 / 7.5 but the guys who turned up at 10 said it was
up/down and had been down a couple of hours, so arrived just right. Rigged
7.8 North E type and 125 Hawk, but switched boards when I couldn't get the
fin in the hawk. Back on JP 146 Pro which was perfect. The 50cm fin
compensated for wind and tide to stay upwind in the small lulls. Conditions
were great with peaks to gybe off and everyone had grins on their faces.
Decided against GPS runs as the sea was big + wind with tide meant losing
groynes and ending in the river chop which was huge. Went thru it twice and
thankfully was fully powered up slashing thru the wave troughs. 90% gybes
clean so another first for awhile. As the tide lowered a couple of flattish
bits appeared coming in 200 metres off the shore so ripped just that
section peaking 25.77kts, but not long enough to really build the speed.
Strawberry Ian and I milked the last few minutes around 4pm ish. Had to
pack in as the wind freshened yet again so was well over and flattening the
sail wasn't enough. No chance of rigging 6.5 so called it a day knackered.
Again team/sauna/Jacuzzi beckoned and soothed some aching muscles.
